Sprinkler weekly test log
Sprinkler weekly test log sheet, free to download and print: the weekly checks BS EN 12845 leaves with the building, on one A4 page, with room for the readings that show a problem coming before it arrives. Made by Sentry Sprinkler Protection, which services sprinkler systems to BS EN 12845 across England.
What the weekly check covers
One row per week. The columns follow the weekly routine in BS EN 12845:
- Water gauges above and below the valve, written down as numbers rather than ticked.
- The air gauge on dry and alternate systems.
- Control valves open and secured, so nobody has left a zone shut after other work.
- The alarm test: the test valve operated to prove the gong or the pressure switch. On a system fed from the town main, the gauge is read again after the test.
- The tank level, where the system has its own water supply.
- The pump start test, where a pump is fitted, with the pressure it started at written down.
- The diesel run, where the pump is diesel driven: the engine run for 20 to 30 minutes, with the fuel, oil pressure, cooling and batteries checked.
- Frost protection: trace heating on pipework in unheated spaces, pump house heating and tank heaters.
Read the trend, not the number
A pressure or a tank level that drops a little every week is a leak, even when each reading looks normal on its own. That is why the sheet asks for numbers. A column of ticks cannot show you a slow fall; a column of readings can.
When something is wrong
Report it the same day if a reading is outside its normal range, a control valve is found shut, or the alarm does not sound. And never tighten a weeping sprinkler head: it is a sealed assembly, and turning it can turn a drip into a full discharge.
If it is happening now, our emergency line is answered at any hour.
What the weekly log is not
It proves the system is standing correctly. It does not prove that water moving through it raises an alarm, or that the pump delivers its duty. Those are the quarterly test and the annual service, and they need a contractor: see fire sprinkler servicing.
Questions about the weekly test log
Is the weekly test log free to use?
Yes. Download it, print it, copy it and share it. It carries our name and website at the foot of the page, and that is the only condition.
Who should fill in the weekly log?
Someone on site who has been shown how: usually the site manager, the caretaker or your maintenance team. The weekly routine sits with the building, not with the sprinkler contractor, unless you contract it out.
Does a complete weekly log replace the annual service?
No. The weekly check proves the system is standing correctly. The quarterly test, the pump run under flow and the annual service need a sprinkler contractor, and the insurer will ask for both records.
