Dry riser repairs usually follow a failed test or an inspection that found damage. The faults are a short list: landing valves that seize or pass, inlets a fire crew cannot use, broken cabinets and missing caps, and joints that will not hold 12 bar. We fix what failed, then test the riser again so the certificate reflects the repair. Sentry Sprinkler Protection does this work across England from its base in Kettering, ISO 9001 certified.
Landing valves that seize or pass
Landing valves are opened once a year at most. They seize, and the washers perish, so the valve either will not open or will not shut off.
We replace the washers where the valve body is sound and the whole valve where it is not, matching what is already on the riser.
Inlets and cabinets a fire crew cannot use
The inlet is the one part a fire crew couples to, and the part most often damaged. The usual repairs:
- Seized or missing blank caps and chains replaced.
- Broken glass panels and damaged inlet boxes repaired or replaced.
- Locks and keys sorted so the cabinet opens on the night.
- Missing or faded signage replaced.
A riser that will not hold pressure
A leak at a joint or a valve fails the annual test at 12 bar held for 15 minutes. We trace it, then remake or replace the joint.
We also check the air valve at the top and the drain at the bottom. A riser that does not empty after use holds water, corrodes from the inside, and fails again at the next joint.
Retested, with a new certificate
A repair is not finished until the riser passes. We charge it again to 12 bar, hold it for 15 minutes, and issue the certificate your fire risk assessment and insurer will ask for, with photographs of what failed and what was fixed.

Questions about dry riser repairs
Who is responsible for getting dry riser repairs done?
The responsible person for the premises under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. In a managed block of flats that is usually the freeholder or the managing agent, not the individual leaseholders.
Can you carry out dry riser remedial works after another company tested it?
Yes. Send us the failed test report or photographs and we will price the dry riser repair from them, then retest once the work is done.
Is a failed dry riser test an emergency?
A riser the fire service cannot use is a serious gap in a building that depends on it. Arrange the repair promptly and tell your fire risk assessor. If vandalism has left the inlet unusable, ring us.
