Wet riser pump replacement is needed when a set can no longer make its duty, keeps failing its changeover, or has reached the end of its life. A wet riser is only as good as the pump feeding it, so the new set is proved the way the riser is: under flow, at the pressure the highest outlet needs, with duty and standby changeover and the alarms tested. Sentry Sprinkler Protection does this work across England from its base in Kettering, ISO 9001 certified.

Signs the pump set is at the end

  • It starts on test but will not make its duty under flow.
  • Duty and standby changeover fails, or only works some of the time.
  • The controller or the pump keeps failing and the faults come back after repair.

A jockey pump that cycles constantly is a different problem: it is usually chasing a leak somewhere in the riser, and a new pump would go the same way.

Repair first, if it makes sense

A pump that trips or will not start is often the controller rather than the motor, and that is cheaper to put right. We test before we quote, and only price a replacement when the set itself cannot do the job. See fire pump repair for that side of it.

Keeping the building covered

A wet riser is permanently charged, so the work is planned to isolate as little as possible for as short a time as possible. You are told beforehand what will be out of service and for how long.

Testing means running water through an occupied building, so most of this work happens in the evening or at a weekend.

Questions about wet riser pump replacement

How long is a wet riser out of service for a pump replacement?

As short a time as the work allows, and planned in advance. We isolate the smallest part we can and tell you beforehand what will be out of service and for how long.

Should the jockey pump be replaced at the same time?

Only if it needs to be. A jockey pump that runs constantly is usually chasing a leak, so we find the leak first rather than replace a pump that works.

Do you replace sprinkler pump sets as well?

Yes. Sprinkler pump sets are tested and replaced the same way, under flow, and a tank and its pump house are often best replaced together.
